So along the lines of the Parrot Loar, does anyone have a decal on their mandolin? I've got a couple on tele's, but the itch for something small on the back of my mando is getting stronger. Any pictures from anyone??

Here's a decal that is on a Lyon & Healy Style C that I used to own. Thankfully, this is a bit more understated than the parrot Loar!

That's pretty great! I'm thinking about putting something right there on mine, but perhaps a small Canadian Air Force decal. We'll see what happens. Lets see how many people yell at me for wanting to put one on a Heiden.......

DON'T DO THAT!!!!

Unless you want to. It is your mandolin and not mine after all.

Haha, I was waiting for that. I figure it's the mando i've had for 13 years already, since it was new. It's going with me to the grave, so it won't hurt selling value, since there is no selling. We'll see if I do it or not.......

if you never, ever plan to sell it than you should do to it what ever makes you happy. Life is good, but short...enjoy the ride.

It's hard to beat the look of the decals on Clarence White's tele....
But I don't see it as an emerging trend in the mandolin world!

I own a gibson A-JR with a decal on the headstock of a flower. I really enjoy it. I feel it makes it an A-Jr plus.

I have thought about putting a Harley decal on one of mine. Might make it sound louder and go faster.

That L&H decal reminds me of those tatoos that some women have on their lower backs...you know, the 'buttbanner'....it's all good. I have a bronco emblem from a ford on my tele....but his thread is not about teles. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Maybe the best answer is that if you have any tattoos yourself, it may make sense to put one on your mandolin as well! Certainly a personal question that one must address on an individual basis. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm more apt to deface my own skin than I am to alter any of my mandolins!

no tattoo's here at all, but the search for the perfect decal is now on........

There's not much flame on the back, so I feel like I should put something on it...... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Just be careful, you can take it too far. Who knows maybe when Michael gets very famous you can have the honor of launching the often bemoaned yet oddly collectible RCAF Heiden.

Or if you want more flame on the back, go to a car detail shop and flame on. Of course no disrespect meant to Mr. Heiden or yourself as I photoshop up your mando.

I think it's your instrument and if the RCAF is important to you and you want it part of your instrument go for it. I rather doubt it will kill the tone. I probably would just sticker up my case (mine has lots of stickers) and spare the instrument but I'm not y o u !

I would suggest maybe put a decal on your Volvo instead!

HA! i love it!! I wasn't meaning that kinda air force sticker.
more like the one at the bottom of this page. http://www.comoxairforcemuseum.ca/Museum%20Store/decals.html

I have no photoshop skills, anyone care to show me what it would look like if, say, it was maybe a couple inches across at the bottom of that back?

Oh, and the flame comment was meant kinda sarcastically, that picture doesn't do that back justice at all.

I do like that faux Hieden sticker though, where'd ya come up with that?

The Heiden sticker is from Michael's website then photoshopped to get rid of the background.

I made this with the ~3inch sticker from the website on the left and then a smaller one on the right. #Of the two I think smaller is better.

This sticker may work espescially if the mando is a cannon, 20MM cannon, that is.

I had a Homer Simpson (doh!) sticker on the back of my Daley for a while - then I sobered up.

Dear Abby;
While reading my favorite message board I find my MAS stimulated. This is a very important message board for me.
I can relate to much of what is said and there is much wisdom to be gathered. The problem lies in that I have little self control when pampering my mandolin habbits.
Is there any hope for me? Is there a support/recovery group for people like me? Now I fear I may spend hours looking for the right decal.
Signed: MAS isn't my only vice but its my favorite.

Dear MAS,

You're screwed.

Hmmmm..........
the small one looks pretty good. I'm thinking now maybe just a maple leaf....... I'll know the right decal when I find it, and I'll keep you all updated!

QWERTY, did I give you MAS? Oops........ sorry........... I'll post some more pictures of it when I get home from work especially for you http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

you can probably get one of those static cling decals for the back. i did that on the top of a guitar for a long time and it stuck just fine. if you got a big one you would be protecting the back.

Not exactly a decal, but this has been scotch taped to my headstock for 20 years. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I sure can't remember why now.

Depending on what kind of finish your mandolin has a static cling decal could destroy the finish on it.
