I love my Givens A-5 (#151) now that you folks here convinced me not to sell it. It had never been worked on at all, was hard to play, and had several issues--all resolved by Leo Lorenzoni of Buena Vista, Virginia, who made it a new mando. (He's also saved a couple of my guitars). But. . .

Now I had this great playing, sounding instrument, but I think those generic Gibson-style tailpieces have cheap -looking covers, and mine had some ugly scratches. So I wonder how many of you have done what i did and whether it was a good idea. Over the weekend I spent several sessions sanding off the plating and revealing the brass. It looks classy to me, and everything is original to the mandolin, just as in 1979 when I bought it. I'm happy.
