Nominated for IBMA istrumental album of the year. I had the unexpected pleasure of seeing these guys here at the Riverhawk Festival. This is one of the best albums I have heard in years. Great music played by incredible musicians. Check out their cover of Girl From the North Country.

No one responded so I will. This a great CD! Makes me want to pick up OT banjo. It's not a hard-driving BG album folks, but if you want some laid back, extremely tasteful and well played American acoustic music, you couldn't do much better than this. Mark Johnson is a magician on the clawhammer style banjo and Emory Lester is a monster on both guitar and mandolin. He's a great guy, to boot.

Agreed - I took a chance on this album based on jaco's recommendation. It's a very musical album with some terrific playing. Thanks for the recommendation!

I love this album too. Clawhammer banjo in a bluegrass setting.

Nice job on Big Sciota (in A), and a haunting Cold Frosty Morning. I look forward to seeing these guys perform some day.

I like Emory Lester. I saw him at Blueberry Bluegrass festival this summer. Very good. I took an hour workshop with him and got some cool pointers to work on. Sweet!

Hi,

I agree. These are two wonderful musicians, and their "Acoustic Rising" had a well-deserved IBMA nomination. I was so impressed by Emory Lester's playing and his reputation as a great workshop instructor that I booked him to teach mandolin at the Transatlantic Bluegrass School this May in Wales (UK). He he has such lovely tone and clarity in his playing, and I'm sure mandolin players here will really enjoy and benefit from his class. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
