I just finished watching Vitus, which is a Swiss/German movie about a child prodigy on the piano. I won't ruin the plot, but it's a moving story and the music is phenomenal. A+.
I tend to listen to a rather limited range of mandolin music. It's refreshing to break out of this mold every once in a while and be inspired by some new sounds. The movie really helps you fall in love with music again, if you're stuck in a rut. (At least, it did for me.)
It also got me thinking about playing the mandolin with a more piano-imbued presence. Someone, somewhere (Don Stiernberg?) talked about the great value of listening to other instruments and learning to incorporate their sounds and techniques. I like that idea.
