hullo..this is my first post and I hope that this is the right forum..I recently dropped my 1912 A series Gibson and it landed face down on the bridge snmashing the bridge and driving one of the adjustable screws into the top of the mandolin...(not althe wat through..but fairly deeply)..this really leads me to two questions..are there any ribs under the bridge that could be cracked ..and to keep me gigging I replaced the bridge with one off the shelf that doesn,t fit very well ..am I likely to damage the mandolin playing it like this until I can fit proper bridge..the tone has definitely suffered ..but I am hoping that this is just the badly fitting bridge..

Any help from you kind fellows would be really appreciated

Dear Andy,

My suggestion would be to find a luthier (or ship the mandolin to Gibson) for proper repairs. You have an instrument that can easily handle proper care and feeding and you may not want to try your hand at learning. Yeh, it's a bummer, but over the long haul, a real repair person will become your friend and your messing around will haunt you for the years to come.

Good luck,

thanks fatt-dad..that sounds like good advice..its a bit tricky to know who to take it to in the uk..and I am tour at the moment without a spare(I could only afford the one Gibson)...only another week to go...I am just hoping that I dont cause any further damage..

You should contact Trevor Moyle at Acoustic Music Co.(in UK) to get a referral for inspection and possible repair.
