Does anyone know if the process for buffing a martin guitar's satin finish will work also for a Collings MT? The process uses Meguiar's Scratch-X and Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish Step 2, and basically a lot of "elbow grease".
My MT has a shiny area above and behind the bridge where my arm usually comes across the top, along with the usual pinky shine spot and of course the back of the neck. I'm thinking she will look better if I just go ahead and buff out the whole thing.
Would love to hear from anyone who has tried this process or something else to polish up their MT (or MF).
I couldn't say. I've got the same issues with my MT, and just chalk them up to well-earned mojo.
I must say that something about that whole process makes me wary. Lately I've been watching reruns of that program Handmade Music, showing George Gruhn grumbling about inexpert repairs and customizations on vintage instruments. Some of those buffed-out 15-series guitars look really nice - particularly the 000-sized boxes. But I still can't help wondering if future buyers will shake their heads the same way we do today when we see an over-sized bat-wing pickguard on a prewar D28.

Texfid...I have seen and played them. It is only a pac rim mandolin, no more and no less. It has nothing to do with the name. If you are looking for a quality mandolin you may look at any number of mandolins, but there may be better selections available.

I've wondered the same thing myself. Im also considering sanding the neck down as the satin finish has mixed with skin oil so much over the years its actually getting "sticky" and cleaning aint doing the trick. Please update this thread with what you decide and how it goes. Id love to know.....good luck!
