Depends on which one! MM, F-5 Fern, Bush, Benson, Steffey, Bibey, Lawson, F-9, or the Distressed MM?

Gibson only sells through dealers. There is a suggested retail but no one has to pay that. Contact a dealer for prices.

I would definitely call Music Outlet in Sevierville in TN because they beat First Quality's price by $300.00 on my Bush model when I bought it in 2000. I don't think anyone can beat their prices. (865) 453-1031
A Gibson F will range from 3,500 for F-9 to around 6,000 for Fern, to 12,000 for master model. This is just ball park and hopefully your mom won't fall over when you tell her. Many people are shocked when they find out how much I paid for my mando. Which is alot of money but I think was inexpensive for the mando.
Wait till your mom hears, I suspect she'll be steering you to a less expensive one. In either case, suggestions are aplenty.
Tell your mom you want a Master Model http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif Dont hurt to start at the top and work your way down

The prices are a little less than that, are those list? I think they start from about 1200 for an A9, 2200-2500 or so for an F9, up to about 10k for a master model?
Your mom should adopt me too... A good mando is a much better investment than a car!

List price on a F-style gibson will range from $3250.00 on a F-9 to $15,900.00 for a Master Model, depending on which one you like and can afford.

Watch the mandolin cafe classifieds. Thats the best bet to find a good Gibson. Be careful who you buy from. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I agree with getting one off of the classifieds here. Its just like buying a new car, when you drive it off the lot you lose alot of value. Be patient and find a good deal on a used one.

Remember that a new instrument comes with a warranty, a used one doesn't.

Although Gibsons are great, have you considered other makers? That might offer you a wider range of prices. There are lots of nice mandolins being made these days. Also, a great A-style will give you more sound for the buck than the equivalent F. F's do look very cool, but the labor involved in making them drives costs up considerably. Personally, I'd rather have a better-made, better-playing, better-sounding A than a lesser F available for the same price. It's your decision and you don't have to apologize to anybody for your choice, but if you haven't considered an A, you might want to. By the way, I have both styles, so this isn't some kind of reverse snobbery thing, just a suggestion that I hope will be helpful.

yes this is very true. And considering that a new one is only a few hundred more than a used one that is something to really consider.
Some good stores are mentioned above, please add Wildwood Music in Coshocton,Ohio to the list.Great service and great pricing too!!

i asked my mom... our family is full... sorry guys.:p
Im probably going to go with an F9, ive had my eye on em for a while now and i think i should just do it. im selling a car this summer, so that should give me about another $500-1000 to work with. i just want to start playing, im tired of all this waiting around for the right one to come my way. oh well. next week it will be mine. oh yes, it will be mine.

I was at First Quality Music in Louisville a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with a great Gibson F-9. It's the2nd mandolin from the bottom on this page (http://www.fqms.com/Static/gibson_mandolins.cfm). The list price was $3250 but they offered it to me for $2300.
Normally, I think an instrument is too personal of a thing to buy over the internet. But I played this one in person and I can vouch for it's tone and feel. It's an amazing instrument. So if you can't get to Louisville to test it out yourself this one would be safe to buy on-line. The tone just leaps out at you. It's very nice indeed.

If you want to know what I paid for my gib. fern PM me. I paid more than 1st quality charges. I found when I was shopping a new fern was anywhere between 4950 and 6000. Janet Davis had a great price, as did Tony Williamson, and first quality. But I was going to nashville, birmingham, and louisville so I went shopping for the best one I could find. I paid a "Medium" price but I bought the one I wanted. And I got to play it and compare it before I bought it. As you are young I think the F9 is a good choice. IMHO. You can find prices by calling the dealers or emailing them. Don't leave out mandolin brothers they might cut you a deal too.
