View Full Version : john hartford radio show
A while back somebody posted a link to a website that hosted an extensive "history" of John Hartford and his music. If I remember correctly, it was about 6 hours worth of streaming audio. I have done a search of this site and have come up empty. Does anyone have a link to this site? Thanks!
I don't know if it's the same site or not, but Bluegrasbox.com has streaming "Radio Hartford" and also dozens of live shows to download from the 70's on. This site is a great source for live music, I've downloaded LOTS of shows. Once you figure out the FTP proccess and how to convert the files to MP3 it's pretty simple. Hope this helps.
I LOVE radio hartford. I have not been able to figure out how to download the shows yet. Do you know of a good resource for directions? I have a login I just don't know how to proceed. Thanks
to download, just register at bluegrassbox.com, they will email a log/pass to you.
Then get an ftp program (I'm on a mac, and use Transmit), any ftp program will work ... go to http://www.versiontracker.com and download ftp software for your operating system (use SEARCH, type ftp). Then just connect to ftp.bluegrassbox.com, use your log and pass ... download to your hearts content ... or until your hard drive is full.
Great stuff there. Thousands of shows! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I am about as computer dumb as they come and I figured it out. I downloaded SmartFTP for free, imputed the bluegrassbox.com password and login and started downloading. I think there is a link on the site to etree.com, they have a pretty good FAQ to follow.
Are you looking for the John Hartford Retrospective program? It was a six-hour show with a lot of interview and recordings. You used to be able to download it at http://www.kfjc.org/hartford/ but it seems to have disappeared from their site. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif I think I might still have the MP3 version on an old computer at work.
Yup, I think that was it. Too bad! If you find the mp3, let me know. thanks!
I found them. There are 6 mp3 files, each about an hour long. They're encoded at 128 kbps and total up to about 330 MB.
I don't have any hosting that will handle something that large. If someone else has super-duper hosting that they can donate then let me know and I can upload them, though it might take a while. I could re-encode them at a lower bit rate but they would probably sound pretty bad.
I'm also not sure about the legality of distributing them. There were originally available for download at the URL I mentioned in my last post, but they've since been removed for some reason.
I am wondering if this would be something that the folks at Bluegrassbox would be will to post on their site? Assuming of coarse it is legal to post something like this.
Speaking of Hartford here is a pretty cool hartford site with some old audio and some pretty nice pics.
