Yep, that’s right. But at least it wasn’t just any banjo player. And of course he was playing with my favorite bass player/composer. You see I’d made the mistake of telling my wife that I’d like to hear Edgar Meyer in person sometime in the next year or two, and she said “Okay. See when he’s playing in New York.” So I did, which quickly resulted in two plane tickets from Texas to New York, two tickets to the Bela Fleck / Edgar Meyer concert, four nights in a Manhattan hotel, tickets to the Lion King on Broadway, numerous cab rides, drinks, meals, and a Mid-Mo M2 that I hadn’t planned on purchasing but couldn’t leave behind. And was it worth it? Yep. Those guys are great! I'm amazed at how relaxed Edgar was - at times he seemed to just drape himself around the bass. And Bela was, well, Bela. Man, I'd love to see them again. The only way it could have been better is if Mike Marshall had jumped in. But maybe that's another trip down the line. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I was at that show at Town hall. I'm at all of these type of shows. There aren't too many bass players that I would go out to see play. I love seeing Bela but when he plays with Edgar, it's Edgar I'm going to see.
Town Hall was a great place. It was nice to be in a venue with so many other enthusiasts. A lot of energy in that room. And the music!

Sounds like you had a great time, Hondo. #But I don't understand how you've costed out this trip. #You saw a banjo player AND a bass player. #So the banjo player only cost you $1,500, not $3,000.
And just to dispel the stereotype definition of an accountant (someone who can tell you the price of anything but knows the value of nothing), permit me to say that you got a great wife for supporting this trip and allowing you to buy a Mid Mo as a souvenir. #Good for both of ya!
You've got me there, Pathfinder. So it was just $1500. A bargain!
And I know that I am a very lucky man - we've been married almost 20 years, and she's always supported, even encouraged, my various obsessions (as I have hers). In fact I wouldn't be mando-obsessed if not for her - to celebrate our 19th anniversary, she suggested that we give each other musical instruments. So now, some six months later, I have two mandos, and she has three recorders, and who knows what and how many of them we'll have in a few years, as we've agreed to learn to play different instruments in the next decade (though The Lovely Wife has forbidden the banjo)...

Bela is an excellent mandolin player, so I think he should be an honorary member of our club. As such, no stigma should be attached to seeing him in concert.
