I saw those three guys along with Russ Barenberg several years ago. It was one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen.

I am sooooo bummed. They are going to be here in Richmond Va and I have to be out of town that evening ARRRRGGGGGGHHHH....

While I always interested in mando content of shows seeing edgar meyer play the bass is truly one of my musical highlights everytime. I just think he is one of the greatest masters of an instrument across so many musical worlds that I have ever seen. Possibly will ever see. I have seen him in classical, bluegrass, newgrass, avant type string quartets. He just looks effortless, soulfull, and the sound is incredible. ANd he is a bit funny also. Geez sounds like I have a crush on him.

Anyway, go if you can. A trio setting will be perfect.

The set lists are all over the place- pretty much anything is fair game for them. Sam was wearing a serious foot/ ankle/ leg brace and seems to be recovering from a broken leg part. He still did a lot of off balance jumping around and was constantly messing with Edgar- untuning his bass and changing the endpin length on his bass.

Everyone was amazing, but Edgar Meyer was in an entirely different world!!!! One of the best shows I've ever seen...

For those of you buying tickets, last night Sam was on the audience right, Edgar in the middle, and Jerry on the left sides of the stage.

Does anyone know if this is related to an upcoming album, or one being recorded on tour? I can't make any of the live shows, but I'd buy a sequel to "Skip, Hop & Wobble" in a heartbeat.

Looks like that one's in Memorial Hall on the UNC campus in Chapel Hill, according to the
event page here (http://www.carolinaperformingarts.org/performances/event.aspx?id=e82c3999-aba0-4da3-94fb-01ca65fe4312). That's the only remaining NC date on Jerry's site (http://www.jerrydouglas.com/performances.cfm).

Sold out, alas.

And yes, I'd be all over a Skip, Hop & Wobble sequel too.

Saw them last night in Gainesville, FL. Absolutely incendiary! I had seen Sam play several times before with his band, but this concert was a revelation. He was an absolute monster. He gave a clinic on how to play inventive rock-solid rhythm mandolin, and his leads were otherworldly. Incredibly clean and precise, with lyrical melodies interspersed with explosive power picking. He played fiddle on two numbers, including his own "Foster's Reel." Both were awesome. After this show, I thought to myself, "this is why Sam Bush is regarded as one of the top mandolin players today." All three were at the top of their game, and Edgar was incredible. They all really seemed to be enjoying each other's company, and they were vulcan mind meld tight. If you can still get tickets, this concert is a must-see. Inspiration for years to come! Encored with Daybreak in Dixie, and Sam just killed it. I am still in shock. Mere superlatives can't convey what an experience this show was. Enjoy!

Just got back from the NYC show in Carnegie Hall. Great stuff!! Three fantastic musicians just jamming and having fun. Music stayed very much in the new acoustic vein, as expected. Several selections from Strength in Numbers, Skip Hop and Wobble, Uncommon Ritual, and Short Trip Home, in addition to a few new pieces they wrote together for the tour. Don't know how much longer they're touring, but if anybody still has a chance to get tickets, do it now!! This was one of the better concerts I've seen in a long time.

I went to the Jacksonville show and thought it was great. Definately not for the one's looking for bluegrass or Sam Bush Band type music. I think if you are a musician you will appreciate this type of concert. More like acoustic jazz-grass with a few fiddle tunes thrown in. Edgar Myer's technique was amazing. My only disappoitment was the crowd turnout could have been better- ( typical of this town/ Thursday night/ FL. Ga. wkend) Although the crowd was enthusiastic.I was able to get some video of the concert, and as soon as I can edit it, I'll put it up on u-tube.

Attended the concert in DC last night. It was amazing to watch and listen to these incredibly talented musicians. I don't think anyone can do what Edgar does on the standup bass. I am really hoping that there will be a CD release of some of this music. They were having a lot of fun on stage and the musical interaction was wonderful. I was a little disappointed that there were so many empty seats, too bad, a lot more people could have enjoyed an incredible concert. Not only did we get our money's worth in quality, but also in quantity. They played two 1 hour sets.

The two back corner sections were completely empty last night in DC. It was a small enough venue that those would have provided a really good view.

I usually don't go to weekday shows but this was worth the loss of sleep.

There are several CDs by Meyer out there, but they do not demonstrate what the man can do. Just listening to a CD you don't realise just what he's pulling out of a doghouse bass. I suspect he's unique; once he's gone, no one will be able to do what he does, and it must be seen to be appreciated. He's the Paganini of the bass, for sure.

The whole DC concert was a delight. It's great to see three masters of their instruments getting it on, obviously enjoying their performance, and playing stuff that's totally outside the box. This may not be the place to admit that I've never seen Bush or Douglas in person before, but I was deeply impressed.

There's a good, positive review of the Halloween Carnegie Hall show in today's (Friday's) New York Times by Jon Pareles. Wish I could have been there.

Missus and I went to the box office 90 minutes before showtime and there were four tickets. Got in and had a great time! That Edgar Meyer is just too much. Trio was tight and Sam as always right on. Thoroughly enjoyed the night!

Managed to snake an EXCEPTIONALLY good ticket to the sold out Chapel Hill show this afternoon (thanks to my exceptionally good wife, who didn't mind me heading out on my own). #It was many, many things, mostly a lot of fun- for the guys playing as much as - no much more than- the audience. #Sam was grinning for the whole show, #Jerry was cracking bad joke after bad joke, and Edgar Meyer is just the perfect foil for everyone. #The music was everything you could hope for- tweren't no singing, but the picking was sheer virtuosity.#The three together are inspiring, but Edgar Meyer is just jaw droppingly stunning. He just grabs the tone from that 250 year old bass, and the sound is HUGE. #Sure happy to have been there!

I'v read somewhere that Meyer depends - i.e., depends - on amplification. A bit hard to believe, at least when bowing. I once heard Anthony Braxton with Dave Holland in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, without any #amplification at all. I could hear every single note.

Well, I saw Edgar and Mike Marshall in an moderate size auditorium at the University of Richmond- unamplified. Sounded pretty good to me...
