I have been working on a Epiphone BG-440 2 point for the past 6 months. It has required removal of fretboard to remove warp, learning to make bridges so that I could increase sustain and volume (something I was able to do in spades) and finally I installed an Allen ar2 tailpiece which has further increased sustain, but it added just a touch of harshness I didn't like.
I didn't want to put a piece of felt in there and mute the sound, so I ended up removing the tailpiece and coating it very lightly with "Shoe Goo" (a silicone gel that hardens to a a frosted looking rubber} in the places it contacted the wood. It was just enough!! Tone and sustain are still there and harsh edge is gone.
