Here I am in Memphis, where I will confer, converse and otherwise hobnob with my brother wizards, and I thought I might take a break from carbon nanotube separation techniques and visit the Gibson Factory store.

One mandolin. A Wayne Benson signature. This is one nice piece of musical instrument--not as loud as I expected, but nice sounding. Signed by Danny Roberts.

I was hoping to play a Sam Bush and maybe a Distressed MM, but I am the wrong side of the state, I guess.

I did see Elvis last night, though. Even without mandolins, this is one cool town.

Fiddlers Green seems to have some nice mandos in Memphis. Not a Gibson dealer, but their Web site lists some mandos I'd be happy to play.

I just looked at their website. It looks like a great shop. Too bad it is so far from downtown.

Wierd coinkydink. I was just down there myself and was disappointed that they had only the one mando. I would agree with your opinion....sweet tone/no volume. I thought it had a cool look. I have seen them online and wasnt thrilled, but in person its rather nice looking. Still, not enough to drop off the 10k!

You should certainly make the drive one day to Fiddler's Green. The owner, Clay, is always there and could talk mando for days with you. He just had Bob Altman make him a new mando thats worth the trip just to check it out. He's always got it with him, along with two others on the wall that ARE worth the 10k (IMO). Lots of other cool instruments to check out to. Great place and a really nice staff.
