I heard someone playing in an open tuning on YouTube (it was called "sawmill tuning" I think), and it sounded really good. #I wondered what are some open tunings that are good for the mandolin. #Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

AEAE is probably the most common open tuning. GDGD gives you the same intervals, but puts less stress on the neck. ADAD/DDAD can work well for some tunes, as can the "semi-open" GDAD, which is a common tuning for Irish bouzouki.

I don't use open tunings much on mandolin, but my mandola is usually tuned CGCG, the same intervals as GDGD or AEAE.
