Started this one about 2 months ago, just waiting on the tailpiece to string her up in the white.
This is a F2 style mandolin with a F5 scale lenght. If I ever decide to sell this in the future, what would I call it?? F2.5? 3 pointer? Any ideas?
So far I am very happy with this build, everything has flowed along perfect, no mistakes no re-dos, and in my humble opinion it is looking pretty good.
I can't wait to get it playing, I sold all my mandolins and NOW I have none! I am having trouble sleeping, hands shaking, headaches, cold sweats..... It has to be the dreaded "mandolin withdrawl syndrone" "Cold turkey has got me on the run!" http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif enjoy the pics! Jd

Wow! I'd never have guessed that was the front of what must be the 'back' in the first photo! Amazing. The front looks VERY nice, Yonkle.

Braizlian rosewood finger rest, as is the fretboard and bridge.

The rosewood bridge. How will this effect the tone? If any?

Here is the back. Nice flame maple real round looking curls instead of strips, I like it.

a bit out of order here is the rosette, First time I made one of these it took 2 days to get it right and another day to get it installed. This one built and installed about 2.5 hours

Man JD, they just keep getting better and better. Nice job on the headstock design and inlay. Is the flowerpot yours?

That is a beauty JD. Keep me in mind if you ever want to sell it.

I love the 3 point mandolins and the fact that it has an F5-length scale. And I do like the flowerpot -- sort of reminds me of early Vega headstock inlays.

Like the one on the left:

thats what it was copied from Jim early Vega. I like it, it's kinda big but still has a delicate look.
To answer the question about finish I am thinking of a light Amber and honey burst with a spirit varnish finish.
Thanks for all the kind words Jd
)Good news. Got a e- mail from Bill Jamaes stating my tailpieces will wrrive very soon http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

got er strung up tonight. I have a little fretwork to do to get the action lower and to get it playing smoother. So far from what I can tell is it has a deep low end and a bright high end and the volume is very good!
