How easy/difficult is it to replace a tailpiece? Have
a two piece Gibson style that I would like to replace
with a one piece Weber universal tail. Anything in particular
I should be aware of? Or, would the wise
thing be to take it to a shop?

The only problem you may have is that the old holes for screws and endpin may not line up, in which case you'd have to plug them up and redrill for the new.
The new tailpiece may use larger screws, thus making the holes larger. This may be something to keep in mind should you at some point want to change the tailpiece again.I'm also finding it can be a bear, finding replacement screws for some of the cast tailpieces.

For the sake of being symmetrical, measure or eyeball the placement of the tailpiece to be absolutely certain it is in direct allignment with the fingerboard (it's of marginal help in bridge placement too). Also install it so that it's parallel with the top. Piece of cake.

I think you will have to enlarge the end pin hole to allow the rubber grommet to work as Weber builds it.
