I'll be there with the family on Friday (can't wait to see Del an' the boys)!
Well, it rained buckets - figures, 90 degrees and sunny for days, then bam!
But, music was/is great - Dl and boys, Carolina Road and Williams & Clark Expedition today. For those unfamiliar, this band features Blake Williams, Monroe's banjo picker for 10 straight years (a record). He's tasteful and funny, told the story that in Oklahoma, it's always windy. So much so that when it stops for a few days, people fall down! And the great Bobby Clark playing his Triggs. What can I say? Simply a great, soulful player who makes it look oh so easy. Picked the heck out of Oklahoma Twister in A chord. Doesn't play his fern much, having too much fun with the Triggs, which is throaty and has presence, in spite of low action.
Carolina Road, I guess the host band, played and were real good, they have Tim Massey in the band on bass, a very good singer and songwriter. They did "Mollie", a great tune which I remember from Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz days.
The festival is going on all weekend, the weather will be better tomorrow, come check it out!
