There are a couple of versions of Seneca Square Dance here (http://www.nigelgatherer.com/tunes/tab/tab1/sen.html), in notes and tab.
That can be a dangerous psot depending on which Cafe posters read it. There is a firestorm going on over tab. Be careful.

I guess I'm ignorant of the firestorm. Maybe you could enlighten me as to the dangers. Is there something wrong with tab sharing or with tab itself? I'm fairly new to this so I am not "in the loop"....But thanks to you, Pseudocoelt!

Well, the merits of tab vs. standard notation are currently being debated in another thread here (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=25;t=47534). I think most people agree that both have their place, but one big advantage to reading standard notation is a much larger pool of resources to draw from - for example 30 versions of Seneca Square Dance here (http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/tunefind?P=seneca+square+dance&find=FIND&m=title&W=wide&limit=1000&thresh=5)!

And then there are some who want folks to use the two transcribing devices on the sides of their heads and figure songs and tunes out for themselves. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

I usually use a little tab, and a lot of ear. I like to sort of have my own version of each song I learn rather than playing someones arrangement note for note. But I do find it helpful to be able to refer to the tab for parts that are tricky or don't sound right when I'm learning...I can admit that I am not up on music theory, note reading and all, but it hasn't detracted from my enjoyment. I don't jam with anyone other than family and friends so it hasn't been a problem there either.....

Naah. No problem. On another thread folks are debating a topic that comes up every so often. With any luck the debate will stay within its thread and not spill over here.
Those are two great tunes BTW.

Walter is spot on recommending JC's ABC Tunefinder as a source of great stuff in standard notation, but you can import the "ABC" format into Tabledit or Melody Assistant software and convert to tab. I also agree however that you need to use your ears with the tab, you really need to hear the tune.

True, but then again....(to paraphrase The Borg), "Insistance is futile!"

Major Holley AND Slam Stewart! (Five words, but it has a good beat and you can dance to it).
Did you say George Benson?
