I just left a room where Josh was playing with Alecia Nugent. He'll do fine. Rhonda can pick from a gazillion guitarists. I heard a funny one the other day from another former Rage guitarist that there is a good sized and growing band of ex-Rage musicians... enough to start another band. A pretty good band, too.
Kinda odd that she was sick last night and missed the IBMA awards. She's sick a lot lately. Oh well.
I wish her the best.

It seems that there are alot of ex-Doyle band guys floating around now, too. Some are doing well, others are not.

Kind of reminds you of all the former Hank Jr. guitar players... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think Josh made a good decision joining up with the Rage in 2004. They are still one of the big bluegrass bands that seem to be making it work well.

Doyle has always said that he's the "Farm Team of Bluegrass" He knows where to find the talent. If it wasn't for DL&Q there wouldn't be IIIrd Tyme Out, Mountain Heart, Barry Scott & Second Wind, Dailey & Vincent, Blue Highway, Blueridge, Grasstowne.
Bill Monroe went through over 100 band members in 60 years. Doyle has gone through around 25 in 28 years. He's creating a legacy is what he's doing. Unintentionally of course!
He's always told me that it's all about the music!

I saw Josh Williams at several shows over the past couple years. I was shocked that he wasn't even nominated for IBMA guitar honors. He's a real guitarist!

What frustrates me is the boy plays killer mandolin, banjo, and guitar. I even remember him playing fiddle onstage with Special-C. Sings a great baritone too.

Who will share the mandolin duties? Josh is quite some mandolin player.

I saw that band a couple of weeks ago. Man, they can cook. I'm not sure they need a lead guitar player with such a strong fiddle, mandolin and banjo.
I've never seen anyone own the fiddle like Michael Cleveland.

Scotti, Is that official? I know they said that he filled in for a few shows and that another guy filled in for some too. I haven't heard anything in the last few weeks.

I'd hate to see Wildfire lose Darrell, which it looks like he has cause they got several new guys in the band now accordign to there website. Man, I've been outta it for a while. I think he can play just about anything as well, and is one of my favorite tenors.
From the Rage website/message board, Darrell was only filling in, but it'd be hard to pass up an opportunity to play with the Rage.

Josh is not only a great picker but is also a very friendly young man. My band opened for Rhonda and the rage this summer and I got to visit with Josh during our sound check. I found out that he is the tall skinny banjo player in the Bluegrass Journey DVD playing with a lot of other well known youngsters (one being Chris Thile). They were all about 10 or 11 years old. He had some neat stories.
I wish him the best of luck. A picker of that caliber should not have any problems http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Lonesome Highwa; Now that you're gone.
Two excellent CDs by Josh Williams. Not one bad song among them.
Long life to the guy.

Michael owns it, all right. So does Jim VanCleve, though. I guess that makes them co-owners.
