I recently sold my Gibson A-1, serial number: 13766, that I had for some years. Any idea of the year it was made--both my student who bought it and I would like to know the year it was built.

There's more info here mando dating (http://www.mandolincafe.com/archives/gibsona/gibsona.html) but I believe one should thoroughly exhaust one's own species before dating a mandolin. Food for thought.

I've met a lot of mandolins I would date, but not many I'd take home to Mama.
My mandolin is just like my exgirlfriend. It's always out and everyone says it's too loud.

So my girlfriend says, "I think you love your mandolin more than you love me."
To which I reply, "Which one?"
Now I need a new mandolin date... Dan

I made a comment to my mandolin the other day when I tried an augmented sixth and the instrument failed to respond accordingly.
When I got back from the gig, my wife was gone and I haven't seen her since.
Can anyone offer any advice? If so, don't.

Have you called the police?
I don't know if I can keep this up, I have tears in my eyes.

According to AR Duchssor's "Guitar Identification: How to date the guitars made by Fender-Gibson-Gretsch-Martin", copyright 1983; US publication 1985.So, it could be out of date, but should be right or at least close.
I don't know why I haven't posted re the dating of mandolins vs. humans, but each has it's advantages. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
