I've just joined the Zoom H2 fan club. It's an impressive and simple machine.
I decided to see if I could record in 4 track and then mix the resulting 2 wav files together in Audacity. It turned out to be dead simple, even I could do it! Maybe someone else has wondered about this, so here's how...
1. Record on the H2 in 4 channel
2. Connect the H2 to your computer using the USB cable
3. Copy the 4CH folder to your disk
4. Open the front stereo wav in Audacity (SR000F.wav)
5. Select "Project\Import" and bring in the rear stereo wav (SR000R.wav) They're in synch without any further tweaking
6. Make adjustments to front / rear balance etc
7. Export to a new wav file - the output is in stereo
This gives you the option of mixing the front and rear tracks together on the computer where the screen is considerably bigger than the H2. You can, of course, mix to stereo on the H2.
I tried this out with a recording I made at our weekly jam. The recording quality is pretty good, every dodgy note was faithfully recorded.
Enjoy
