I have an F5 style mando that I would like to add a pick up system to. I have heard that PUTW are good ones for mandos. Is anyone using one? How did you mount it? I was told buy one person that you can mount it right under the bridge on the outside of the top. Wouldnt this damage the pick up when intonation adjustment was needed after installing the pick up? What are your opinions on sound quality? Any help here would be appreciated. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

all you do is loosen the strings up and then slid the strip under the bridge. i think it comes with or you can get replacement strips. but im not 100% positive. then the jack just clips right on the side with a metal bracket that has cork on the pieces that comtact the mando. they are pretty good pick ups. i don't have one but i have seen them on a couple of mando of my friends. seems to do the job pretty well.

I've got a PUTW #27 on my Will Parsons F2 model. #Dyfyngravity is right. #just slide the strip under the bridge. (i chose the treble foot for the sliddin'). #The other end of the strip (short cable) goes to a 1/4" carpenter jack which i clamp just behind the bottom point. i stuff the excess wire in the f hole. #if it weren't for the carpenter jack, you wouldn't know it was there.

No damage done to the pickup. #its meant to get squoshed by the bridge. #the firmer the squish- the better the tone. #As you slide around the bridge for intonation adjustments, the PU just slides along too.

#i'm not using it much right now. I'm using an SM58 mic on my current set up instead. In my low volume situation, a mic is sufficient and sounds better.

#But the PUTW does works fine. #I do get a bit of a plonky sound from it,though. #But I haven't spent a great deal of time with my LR Bags Para DI to dial in the tone. #i think it is just reproducing the sound of the parsons -which doesn't have stunning sustain. #Its got a nice woody tone but it don't ring like a Sam Bush. #

I like the PUTW solution cause it wasn't too expensive and its very easy to remove/add and no hole drilling or unsightly piezo bridge/saddles with the wire snaking out from the middle.

good luck.
