The STE series had tone bars, and integral neck joint like Flatirons. Units varied in components and finish. Hopefully, the thread will continue and we can get a better idea of the various units produced. Ya got a nice mando!

came in this morning, boy does it sing, i was playing a Michael Kelly Festival as a starter, we're talking light years in tone and playability. wow. first song was "angeline the baker", then "salty dawg" & "cluck old hen". it vibrates my ribcage, i have to stop.

hey wes,
yes i'm glad i made the upgrade, the tone & playability are awesome, the fretwires are larger, easier to finger/hammer /pulloff etc. the neck is sweet and the tone is so much richer. just plain good ol'american luthery. are you going to any festivals or jams soon? going to the Celtic Music Festival in Grass Valley this weekend, hoping to attend some workshops.

Seems like we have a new Weber afficionado !. The Weber Mandolins have a deservedly excellent reputation - i haven't seen an adverse word about them on this site anyway. I'm fortunate enough to have two different style Webers & i won't be parting with either.
Weber has a new Mandolin out called a "Custom Elite",which the folk at Weber acclaim as their finest yet - that must be a beast !!. If i was still working for a living (i'm retired thro.a back injury),i'd be going for one of those as sure as i'm sitting typing this post.
My 2 are braced differently - the Beartooth is X-braced & the Fern is Tonebar braced. The tonal differences are quite pronounced between the two. The Fern is open, powerful &
'sweet' - the Beartooth almost lives up to it's name. On the Bass side it's a monster & on the treble side,it just rings out with a strong, clean tone. How much the tone has to do with the bracing used i don't know,as the top on the Beartooth is half as thick again as the Fern. Obviously the tones are a result of the varying woods, thicknesses & methods of
construction,whatever, Weber got it right,

Understated beauty, neat construction, fine tone. Very nice.
After nine months of playing my STE F the sound has changed and improved, and it sounded good to begin with. I predict you will be happy with your new beauty for some time to come.
