Hello all,
I am a newbie mandolin player and just purchased a Michael Kelly F-model. I know it would benefit greatly by a proper set-up. Can anyone recommend anyone in the Athens, Georgia area? Also, what is the general cost for a set-up? Thanks to everyone..this board actually got me interested in mandolin playing!!

The price you pay will depend on precisely what it needs to make it play well. The frets must be in a near plane with only a very slight relief, the strings should be adjusted in the nut, and the bridge should be adjusted to set the final action. The bridge may need fitting to the top, and possibly the strings need to be adjusted in the saddle of the bridge so they are all on the same plane. No one can tell you without seeing the instrument.
Take it (or send it) to John Hamlett, Randy Woods, Joe Vest, Dave Cohen, Tony Williamson, Steve Perry, etc. Don't be surprised if it costs $150. or more to make it play well. It could cost considerably less but your luthier will have to look it over before (s)he can tell you.

Uguman72 you can look HERE (http://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/builders/searchdb.cgi?uid=default&view_records=1&keyword=georgia) for a list of some luthiers in Georgia. There are two pages so look at the 2nd page as well.
