View Full Version : Pegasus Case?
I'm in the military and due to my travels, would like to buy a real solid case to protect my new F5-G. #
Sooo... #I was thinking about a Calton but then ran into a website for Pegasus cases. #They seem like they might protect it a little bit better but I haven't seen one in person yet. #Have any of you seen or own a Pegasus case that can give some feedback?

There's been plenty of discussion of the Pegasus on the site. Do a search and the threads should pop up.
But the short answer is that the Pegasus provides as much protection, if not a hair more (due to the greater distance from the headstock scroll to the edge of the case) as the Calton.
I have both and I prefer the way the Pegasus sits on my hip and balances better off my shoulder. But in the end I feel that either provide as much protection as your going to need for a mandolin in this world, anyway. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

They are all custom made and usually takes couple of months or more depending how busy Sam is. I heard he's not taking any more orders so he can catch up. I also have both and its a nice case. If you're in a rush you will do fine with the Calton, but be sure to stuff the peghead area.

I have two Pegasus cases and one Calton. Both protect well. The Calton has less room for the headstock. The Peg is a much better shape-easy to carry. Sam is good to deal with but he is backed up on production- you just have to be patient. I have an order in for my third. I think they are great. I keep a Nugget in one and a Gichrist in the other. My Brentrup on order will go in the third Rich
I guess I'll contact Sam and see if he's taking orders. #If he's not, I'll go with a Calton because I have a couple of plane trips coming up in the fall.
Thanks for the great info. #This site Rocks!!! # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I am one who had the headstock snapped off my Gilchrist due to the Calton being too narrow in the headstock area. I hear they will be comming out with a better design sometime soon (anyone heard about this?).
I have seen Pegasus cases and they look very good to me. They have very little storage space, though.

Just have to add a plug for presto cases. #They're the perfect blend of protection and storage. #Mine's sweet! #They are australian made (which makes shipping an issue), but they are fairly reasonable when compared to other high-end cases. #
You can email Paula at prestocases@iprimus.com.au and she can ship to the US. #I did buy mine used here in the states, so you might could find one that way. #I'll never need another case...

The 'Gibson Guys' have made noises about a custom Calton forthcoming that will be supplied with Master Model Gibson mandolins. Maybe that will incorporate design changes.

Regarding the space issue Pete, too bad I didn't think to show you mine when I visited you in November. The A model is probably the smallest case in the business, and I have a little Korg CA20 or whatever number it is and a nail clipper under the neck, and 2 packs of stings, a can of picks, a little nipper for string ends and a plug-in cable/clip for the the tuner under the peghead. It all fits, but you can't just throw it in. It's not a barn but it's enough for me. My biggest problem has been finding a place for the strap since the thing fits so tightly all around, and if you don't put it in properly it's hard on the lining.
That mandolin of yours sure deserves a good "home".

Does anyone know if a small dog case cover will fit a pegusus case?
