Does anyone know a source for the .120" tortoise colored pick guard material. All I can find is .090". What do most people use when making pick guards?

I don't know about .120", but Stew Mac has .100" here:

Yeah, they used to carry a item number #1050 that was .120". They must have discontinued it. Is the .100 thick enough to make a standard F-model pickguard?

Get in touch with Steve Smith at Cumberland Acoustic(www.cumberlandacoustic.com). He should be able to tell you.

I back up the plastic on my pick guards with thin, high quality plywood available in many hobby stores. That gives me plenty of bearing for binding the outside edge with the same or different plastic and produces a strong, stable piece.

Here's a very unconventional guard made from that StewMac material. The only place it is attached is two pins at the fretboard. It is unsupported on the other side and has proven more than up to the job for me, at least.

I use thin pickguard material on a spruce backing(off cuts of guitar tops) for pickguards. Stable, and lightweight, and I can use any of the available pickguard materials, including the Greven Tortis stuff.
If someone needs some of this spruce, let me know before IBMA and I can bring a handful there for you....

You can also put the thin material on acrylic (plexiglas) and bind it if you wish. This allows the light to come through from underneath the guard for a nice translucent effect.
