I've taken to calling this instrument the "three-card Monte." There was one more eBay auction after Mitch Simpson sold it ... I was never sure if that last auction was real or not. This CraigsList ad, in case anyone wonders, is fake. I actually inquired about it and have yet to hear anything back.

that other ebay auction was in fact real. i spoke with the buyer. that was post santa cruz craiglist, and pre portland craigslist.

Interesting how ubiquitous some of these specific scams can become: I did a quick google on some of the text in the ad ("This mandolin truly is a work of art"), and got a hit on a local Albany, NY classified site (link (http://albany.backpage.com/buyselltrade/classifieds/ViewAd?oid=oid%3A807203&name=electronics)) -- although it is no longer an active listing.

Oh is it a scam? I thought the dude just hated that Mandolin for some crazy reason.

I recently had the "honeymoon in Hawaii" scam tried on me. It was a beautiful Fender 4-neck steel guitar on the Raleigh, NC craigslist. Trouble is, it mentioned that the guitar was "right here in Spokane".

Hmmmm... I contacted a craiglist advertiser who said he had a Calace bowlback and was sellingit for a reasonable price. Heren is his first reply:

Hi,
Thanks for your email. The mandolin it's still available for sale and it's in perfect conditions. Now I'm in Hawaii in my honeymoon and the mandolin it's in the iSold It custody, because I'm using iSold It services so I can sell it without difficulty. I want to make a secure transaction through iSold It, it's safe and easy for both of us. Ok so I will explain you how iSold It works.
First of all I need your full name, shipping address and cell phone. As soon as I receive your infos I will start this transaction through iSold It. They will send you an e-mail with all the instructions that you must follow to complete this deal with me. Also you have 10 days to inspect the mandolin and if it's not like described, you will have a complete refund within 3 days and return it on my cost of course. If you decide to keep it, they will release me the funds, so I get paid only after you receive the mandolin. The shipping is free.
I'm waiting for your reply.

Thank You
