Hi gang – On Wednesday nights I get together with a couple of friends to play music. Last night we tried a new song for us: “The Daring Young Man On The Flying Trapeze”. We didn’t have the sheet music but the guitar player knew the chords and the recorder player could improv the melody. I was able to play chop chords during the verse and noodle some double stops and tremolo during the chorus. I’d like to find the sheet music, preferably arranged for the mandolin, and some recordings of the tune by a mando player if possible so I can study / practice it before our next meeting. Anyone have any suggestions on recordings of this tune and sheet music source?
Thanks
L
Man, that's been one of my all-time favorite tunes since I heard the Little Rascals play it in an old movie....I always thought it would make a great mandolin orchestra tune.
Haven't found sheet music year, but here (http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/folk-songs-with-chords/Man%20On%20The%20Flying%20Trapeze.htm) are the lyrics with chords...

yes its a fun song. Lots of variations on the lyrics too - some very racy. Well I just found this link online to the basic melody. check this out:
mandolin tab and standard notation to the melody (http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/mandolin-tab/Man_On_The_Flying_Trapeze.htm)
Pretty cool!

Hey, way cool! But, I think the melody is easy enough to figure out...now an ensemble arrangement! That would something ELSE! Great tune for a mandocello, I'd think.

That’s true. We were able to fake our way through the melody last night just by singing it and finding the notes by noodling around. We got it pretty close. A more detailed and interesting arrangement will be a bit harder to find but I'm looking. I'm going to go to my local acoustic music shop some time this week and see if they have anything (sheet music) available for this tune. I can see this tune as a great crowd pleaser and sing-along too.
