Anybody have tab or a recording of Monroe playing this? I've got one recording of it but thought I'd go to the source if it's available. Thanks in advance!!

According to my information, Monroe never recorded this tune. I could be wrong, but I looked pretty hard for it to do the research before I recorded it.

I believe James Bryan recorded it as "Monroe's Farewell...."

Chris Henry recorded an excellent version of Farewell to Longhollow. That entire CD is terrific!!!
That has become one of my favorite Monroe tunes as of late and is great fun to play. If you make it to Greensboro sometime we can give it a try.

The Montana Mandolin Society was so sure that Monroe did not record that tune, that they recorded their version, titled, "Montana's Farewell," on their "Dance of the Sandhill" CD.

James Bryan version I know -
but I believe it is only on vinyl somewhere in someone's dusty record collection - that was a great album - rounder "lookout blues" - love James's style -
heavy Irish influence.
I could work up chords and basic melody - but it might be a few days.

Terry Bullins, from Elkin NC, plays FTLH on the recent Steve Kilby album, Kingsberry Run.

The Warrior River Boys "New Beginnings" was on cd--probably early 90's. It was on Rounder and may be out of print.

I've got Frank's version, Chris' version and Terry Bullin's version. That ought to be enough to get me started. I'm not all that great at learning by ear so this should be interesting. Wish me luck!

I already had the 2 newer ones but now I need to get them older ones too. Make sure you search by Warrior River Boys though. David Davis and the Warrior River Boys is only listed on the newer 2.

I recently created a Tabledit file of Monroe's Farewell to Longhollow based on Chris Henry's recent recording. I thought I had the file posted at Mandozine.com under their Tabledit section but it wasn't there. I resubmitted the file and hopefully it will be posted soon. It's a great tune and not too hard to play.

Boom, like that!
I can play the melody to this tune, but I have a question about the chord changes. Seems to me the melody implies the changes mostly as entau wrote them out above, but on some versions (like C Henry's) my ear hears them much simpler. Also, I don't think it turns around on the E chord, just goes to the C and then back to Am.
Am G Am C Am
Am C Am C Am
Anyone else hear it like this?
Actually, in the B part it does go to the E chord, not the C. But I still think my version of the A part is right.
