I have a mandola that has a few bad frets that need repair. It would be nice to find someone local so that it may possibly be a learning experience for me as well. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This gentleman is located between Leesburg VA and Harpers Ferry WV- sort of the D.C. area. I recommend him highly!

I always recommend Appalachian Bluegrass (http://www.appalachianbluegrass.com) in Catonsville, Md. They did a GREAT job on the Gibson A2 I had 19 years ago.

I've spent money and time at Appalachian Bluegrass and they are great people but you probably won't see the work being done. If you're up for a field trip you might contact Bluett Brothers in York PA. He might accomodate your repair and your interest in learning. He has a very interesting "build your own" program.

I can also recommend Marty Fair at Fairbuilt, just saw/jammed with him last night as a matter of fact. He's also making mandolins as well, check out his A model if you visit him.
