The bluegrass festival at Bill Monroe's birthplace in Rosine, Ky. is coming up this month.

Is anyone going?

Anyone been before that can give me some hint what to expect?

My 14 year old daughter tricked me into promising her I would take her to see Ralph Stanley, who is performing there. That was a year ago, when it seemed like a better idea than it does right now.

Yup, I'm heading there the evening of the 27th. And maybe never coming back. Sounds like a song lyric. I've never been to it before, but heard it's a great festival. Primitive camping only, but friends of mine have a large trailer in case the weather is bad and I turn into a whining sissy. Hope to see you there.

My mom is one of the mc's so I will be heading down on thursday and will be there through sunday night. I have been there three or four times and sometime just go to rosine for fun to see friends. i could live there.

What I can't find on the web site is the time that specific bands will be playing. I want to make sure my daughter gets to see Dr. Ralph if at all possible and I'm going to have to make arrangements at work and with her school to do that. It would be nice to know if he's playing in the afternoon or evening, for instance.

If you see someone wondering around with a banjo and/or mandolin looking lost just say "hey." I'll probably have a daughter with a fiddle standing nearby. She'll be the one trying to help her dad figure out the chords.

I still haven't found anyone locally to jam with so I'm looking forward to the parking lot and camping area shows as much as what happens on the stage.

You probably won't see a schedule with times until you actually get to the festival. #In general though, the big name headliner type acts usually will play late in the schedule. #An educated guess says that Ralph will probably play one 75-90 minute set starting in the 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM time frame on both days.

I'm hoping you are right on the schedule. I'm about an hour and a half away and that would give me plenty of time to get there on a weekday. Well, I might have to leave work a bit early, just to make sure...

I'm also hoping that Ralph Stanley is going to do more than just sing "o Death" and leave the stage. Having an emblematic song has got to be a curse in disguise.

I'm so covered up in preparing for a national conference that is coming here (and I have been doing the local preparations) that I can't deal with anything else right now. But, first of the week I think I'll start calling the organizers of the festival (who will be pulling their hair out in preparation for the event) to see if they can give me some specifics.

Ralph usually plays late friday evening around nine or so but don't hold me to it. Jerusalem Ridge isn't really a big festivel for jamming but there will be some, if not friday night there should be people down at the barn down in rosine.

That's the information I needed.

If nothing large happens I plan to be there with my daughter. I think I'll get her out of school early and head on up that way. Luckily, I get done with classes early on Fridays!

dmamlep, I don't know for sure how far London is from Rosine, but it always seemed like a long way from Smithland! Rosine is about a third of the way between us if I remember right, which means you are around two to three hours, give or take.

100% Monroe, where is the barn in Rosine? Is that a public event? Or do you need an invite?
