This picture is from the Turkey Creek website. I'm wondering
if there is a specific term for this feature. What other
builders/companies offer this type of scroll on the
headstocks of their mandolins. It is beautiful, and reminds
me of a violin headstock given the color it is.

Thanks,
Andrew

PS I've been reading this board for years, but this is my
first post, so please excuse this question if it's been
covered. I'm excited to finally participate in the community!

Seems a Nice design change, the Loar F style headstocks seem to have the cutout headstock feature glued back on after damage at some [big oops! ] moment .
a rare change seen was a cross grain plug glued into the flat headstock, just where the typical split when bumped .. happens.
the plug made invisible with finishing veneer on both sides.

I like it, no broken headstock scroll to worry bout. I've seem similar design, mainly the Lion head headstock and the violin scroll where the scroll is at a 90 degree angle to the body and not flat like this one. Only term I've ever heard it called was just that is was a carved Headstock.

Interesting note on this headstock design is that the way the edge is designed it would be difficult to bind the edges whick is what I prefer.

I have always thought about a regular F style headstock in 3D relief much the way that one is. I mentioned it in the builders section. One builder said that they could build it, if I were willing to pay for it. I guess that means...fat chance.
