I thought this was pretty cool and I've never heard of it done before. I've been playing bass in my highschool jazzband for a year and this year after figuring out my effects box i tried out and am now the official "Mel-Hi jazzband Mandolinist" http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif pretty catchy, huh?
I'm playing my Stewmac 5-string w/ Parsons-White b-bender through a zoom G2 and washburn master series amp. It sounds great and adds a lot of color to our band which recieved straight superiors at State Festival last year. It's also soo much fun to play solos against a rythm section and full horn section http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hate to break it to you, but I played mandolin with my high school jazz band in 1992-1993. Only for one song though. Mostly I played bass. I think it's cool that you'll be doing it full time, you're going to open some minds.

Though not exactly new territory, congratulations on exploring some rarely visited mandolin turf!
In the early 1980s I played five string electric mandolin with the University of Texas Jazz Orchestra (i.e. the jazz band) in what would have been the guitar chair.

I couldn't agree more -- one of the great things about having an electric mandolin in your toolkit. Bravo! Keep it up!

thats awesome! Cool to hear its been done before. I'll have some recordings up soon on myspace real soon, just bought a whole bunch of new recording software that I'm still figuring out. I also plan on doing some composing/arranging for the band (with a very important mandolin part of course, haha).
