I just saw the end of Shut Up and Sing on HBO or Starz or some such cable channel. I'll prelude my question with somebackground: This movie is a documentary about the Dixie Chicks and the hassles they had to endure from the Country Music Establliment in Nashville and from small-minded rednecks everywhere attempting to ostracixe them after Natalie Maines pointed out that she was embarrssed to be from the same state as the President on the eve of the foolish, pointless and wasteful war with Iraq.
Anyway, when I first turned it on, the blonde who isn't the mouthy one was holding a hot pink electric mando. Anyone know what that was?

being a small-minded redneck I don't want to be preached at during a concert that I paid hard earned money to see. I paid for the music, not the lecture. They want to express themselves they should do it during an interview, not on stage. This goes for political, religious or any other opinions. And no, I don't have any info on that pink mando http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
BTW, I am officially starting the "locked" countdown on this thread. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Martie Maguire (http://emando.com/players/Maguire.htm)'s electric mandolin is by Ed Elliott (http://emando.com/builders/Elliott.htm) of Oklahoma. It isn't hot pink, but might have looked that way under stage lights. It shows up 3 or 4 different places in the film.
But I really only listen to instrumental music played by computers, to make sure I don't accidentally encounter any people expressing themselves.

Well said - I find that many musicians like actors (and other show business people) are not particularly better informed than anyone else about political matters -- so "shut up and sing" is great advice in my opinion.
Also I think the way "red neck" as it was used in your post is offensive and no better than other derogatory names used to describe ethnic groups.

You should really leave your religion and politics at the door when you log in here or run the risk of being ostracixed.

Incredibly well put Mr. That may be the most insightful line i've read on this site all year. And like Steve Earle said, all music is political.
Hmmm...wonder what the political slant is for 'Hot Corn Cold Corn'?
"Political" is usually a term that people use to describe opinions that they disagree with.
Everything else is "fact." http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
