Man, I just can't get enough of this recording! I have it in my CD player at the office, and am basically listennig to it all day long. Excellent playing - some hot, some tasty, always just right. Great ensemble work, and Reischman is a tone master, but a control master as well - never over-driving the sound in any tune, playing what really works. All the musicians are top-notch.
Thanks for the tip-off, Scott, and for making it so easy for me to get a copy through the Cafe!

And that strap he's got on his old piece of !@#$ is just right!

the more I listen to that CD, the more I'm impressed with his compositions. They are very melodic, but with just the right twists in the chord progressions to keep it interesting and engaging. I worked up a version of "The 8th of February" for a contest tune, and it flowed very nicely. And what a great variety of tunes on that recording, from straight ahead fiddle tunes, to waltzes, to barn-burners in minor keys, and all original.
Ponies in the forest. I really like that one. It moves.

All of John's compositions are just awesome! And Tone, Tone, Tone!

That's one of my favourites. I think the best parts of the CD aren't necessarily John's licks(although they are incredible), but the the dobro and b#$jo work on tunes like Nootka Blues.
I got a copy a couple of weeks ago (Thanks for the suggestion, Scott!). #I enjoy most bluegrass CDs that I hear, but there aren't very many that grab me by the ears and captivate me on the first play-through. #"Up in the Woods" is one of those few.
