View Full Version : I Had a Dream

Hey Y'all,
So I had this really strange dream last night. Could've been the NyQuil, who knows...

Anyhow, I dreamed that I sold my current mandolin which I love and never plan on selling, and bought an F9. I sanded the edge down as to not scrape my arm when I pick and also got an arm rest for it... I dreamed that it had the best tone and volume I've ever heard. Strange since I've never even thought about an F9 before, and have never seen, heard, or played one in person. I also dreamed that I cut my hair and got a buzz cut... Hmm.

I had a buzz cut a few years ago but let it grow back out again, so that one's not too far fetched. But the other mando part? Well, I don't plan on ever selling my mando, and my aesthetic taste usually doesn't go for the simplicity look of an F9, so... What could it mean?

Dave

Don't worry...It's just all the subliminal messages and back-masking on the Cafe http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Exactly how much NyQuil are you drinking?

mandofiddle - What kind of mandolin do you play now? I had the same dream, now instead of my beautiful Festival F, I have an F9, and I've never been happier. Frank

this is too strange because i had a dream two nights ago that i was playing an f-9 on stage some where and it sounded really good but i couldn't remember any of the songs and i was a little confused because there were no dots on the fretboard. i had to improvise everything and i did pretty good. but, i'm in line for a new pomeroy f model so there is not much to worry about.

I play a custom made RonO F5. Has an internal microphone and a piezo pickup, and sounds killer. I can't imagine getting rid of it.

Dang, that dream sounds like a nightmare considering the beautiful mandolin you have.

Well, I hope that if your dream ever decides to come true, you give me a call to buy that RonO!

Yeah, it coulda been a nightmare... I woke up and checked to make sure I still had my hair, and then had to pick a few tunes before I left for work. Just had to be sure it was a dream http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I'll keep that in mind onlyagibsonisgoodenough, but don't sit by the phone holding your breath, lol...

heh, sorry all u Gibson fans. im just not a fan of F9's i gad a chance to get one, but i chose my km1000. the crafstman ship made never want anything made by gibson just cause the fact that they replaced such a nice mandolin "the Flatiron" with a mandolin that doesnt evan have binding

It does though....its black binding so it doesn't just jump right out at ya. Although I am not defending the F-9 because I too think the Flatiron was a better mando for the price. But I like my Red Diamond F-5 and will not be buying for a long time....haha well for atleast the next month or so. Im thinking about starting my own project.

seth - Once again, nicely stated opinion, but perhaps a bit uninformed. Yes, as stated above, there is subtle black binding. You might want to check the review Mandolin Magazine gave the F9 in the issue with Roland White on the cover. Pretty much a rave. By the way, my take on craftmanship is that anything made to Loar specs, as the F9 is, and made with the same tone woods as the upper models, is bound to incorporate some pretty fine craftmanship. If you prefer your Asian import, good for you. I have owned and traded Kentucky mandolins several times. I have nothing bad to say about them, because I realize they are not all the same. Why slam a particular model, unless you have owned one for a time? That would give your opinion a bit more sand. Just my opinion, sorry to turn this nice post into a battle. Frank

Umm, I didn't mean for this post to turn into any kind of mando-battle. I've always been of the opinion that if you're happy with what ya got, then don't worry about what other folks have. It won't do you, or the other folks any good if you talk down on anybody's mandolin regardless of what their playing. Heck, I started out on a $150 Samick, but it did me just fine in getting me to a point to move up. It served its purpose. At the time I was a struggling college kid and wouldn't have been able to take up the mandolin at all if I had to shell out any more than that. I think I might have even had to sell some plasma to afforf that one (boy were those sad days)

-Dave (whose happy with his mando and is happy that you're happy with yours) http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

hey, as long as you're not having nocturnal emissions over a mandolin , you should be ok. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Don't sweat it Dave. Some folks just have a conditioned reaction when somebody brings up the name of a mandolin other than what they own. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif They probably don't even have any control over it. Kinda like the hackles on my dogs back when they see the mailman coming. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Concerning your original post don't try to figure out how some of those weird images come floating through your noggin when all you really want is a little shut eye. Just look at as money saved instead of plunking it down on a Fellini film. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

well, I didnt mean to start this either, here the deal, ive only played 1 F9, and dont get me wrong, Im NOT sayin that the mandolin is Cr@p, but. I think its REALLY SAD, to say the least that Gibson came out with the F9 and the RB banjo. It would seem that a company as Idolized as Gibson wouldnt EVER want to see thier name on anything other than A1. the mandolin DID sound good, but for instance, under the tounge wasnt even sanded, nor the inside of the scroll, NOW, Im building one right now and I know good and well that thats a pain, but for the price of that mandolin.....WHY?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif? Anyway. I apologize too for starting this.
