Why not MAD, replacing "syndrome" with "disorder?" MAS sounds like the thing people say in church. And I'm not speaking for anybody here, but I am truly a little MAD.

Syndrome sounds more like we caught it, where as disorder may be a little too close to the truth http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think "MAS" is more appropriate. #It means "more" in Spanish.

MAS always makes me think of the famous Sugar Ray Leonard-Roberto Duran Fight #2 which took place in the Louisiana Superdome on November 25, 1980. Duran reportedly said in Spanish "No Más" (meaning 'no more') several times after he refused to continue fighting during the 8th round.

I think you're right about being "being MAD" having a nice ring to it...I'm pretty sure the term "MAS" originally derives from the guitar world, where "having a bad case of GAS" is very common...

A syndrome is a collection of symptoms. A disorder is something bad. I've got the symptoms but is that bad? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Bah. A syndrome is always bad, or there wouldn't be a medical name for it.
As for the fact that it's derived from GAS, I know that, but we should have some say in what it's called, as a mandolin is not a guitar.

Why not combine the two for MADS? Or maybe IBAM I Bought Another Mandolin.

MAS is the correct term! MAD sounds like MAD COW DISEASE! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I think it was originally GAS, where the G stands not for guitar but for Gear.
So you get: gear acquisition syndrome
It's commonly used between guitarist as Guitar acquisition syndrome. But I'll noticed that they also use if they have GAS for a new amplifier or effect or something like that. So could be gear or guitar...

Are there some other combinations in use as well?
like:
BAS (banjo/bass)
FAS (fiddle)
?

I'm never MAD when I get another mandolin just a feeling a little more POOR. But then you sell the boat and bounce back for another aquisition.

MAD is a little close to MADD though...And while I'm against drunk driving, I'm not a mother, and that organization has nothing to do with mandolins that I know of.
