There's a Superior brand mandola on craigslist for $300. They're sold through Berkeley Music, and when I went to check them out on the Berkeley Music website, they said that they are no longer selling them mail order because "They sound good, but they're a bit too rustic, so you should see what you're getting." Such honesty is refreshing, but I'd like to know a little more. Anybody?

It doesn't look too bad from the illustration - $300 seems pretty low for it if it's in any kind of playable condition.
I hope the Superior isn't Inferior!

I know it's "just me", but brands labled as Acme, Apex, Superior, Ichi Ban, etc just make me think of Road Runner cartoons.

Curt- I know what you mean. there's a town in Montana named "Superior", and believe me, it ain't.
Of course, there's also Great Falls, - it's not great, and the army corps of engineers took out the falls years ago.
Still, I'd like to have a mandola, and I just can't afford the teens Gibson H1 of my dreams right now.

Well, I heard back from the seller, and it's a 17 3/4" scale, so I'm no longer interested. I'm looking for a 16" scale mandola. If anyone else is interested, here's the link: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/msg/398203464.html
