Hi
I'm an occasional poster and (mostly) lurker from South Africa.
I've recently bought a new flat top mandolin from a local builder. I'm been looking for a few things for the instrument, but being in SA will be ordering most from outside SA. I'd really appreciate any suggestions...
Case: The builder tells me that the mandolin is a non standard shape and can't recommend a case. Can anyone recommend a case based on the following basic dimensions?
- total length 64cm (25 inches)
- body width 28cm (11 inches)
- body length to beg of heel 33cm (13 inches)
- body depth + bridge 28cm (11 inches)
Pickup: I bought a McIntyre Feather, which I've used before but frustratingly can't reach into the mando far enough to install it! I've also had some problems with this pickup design (hum etc), so... I wonder if anyone could recommend a pickup? I prefer internal hidden solutions, but wonder if a pickup bridge combination (like the Schatten MT Series) could be a compromise solution? This mando needs a new bridge anyhow, so this could be a double solution.
Does anyone know how these kinds of pickup sound? What is their acoustic sound like?
