I just finished playing for a wedding and reception. #There was pay, and there was food--a feast. #Chilled shrimp, Greek olive salad, huge wheels of cheese (the good stuff), wine--instead of one huge wedding cake, the bride asked all of her friends to bring their favorite cakes. #There was an entire table of cakes, almost any flavor you'd want. #Plus a doughnut-hole cake that was a big hit with the kids (and us). #Absolute after gig-heaven.
What is everyone's favorite food following a good gig?

Food at gigs so far has been a frustrating thing for me. To date I've never played for money (that will change in November), only for food and drink and lots of fun. Since I sing, I have to pass on all that good fried stuff because it messes up my throat and makes it difficult/uncomfortable to sing. So most of the time I eat a turkey wrap or something, and watch everyone else eat all the good stuff http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I love chili and corn bread. No better combination. And the folks who show up for chili and corn bread concerts are nice folks.

Yum, chili and corn bread. #It does seem that the more down-home the food, the warmer and nicer the crowd.

best was always the food brought by the guitar players mom. She is in her 70's and would always bring me fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, home made bread, and pineapple upside down cake...it was fantastic. She always fed us as the gigs rarely did other than soft drinks.

Fried chicken - after you've finished eating, just wipe them greasy fingers up & down the frets & there you go ,home fried 'Fast Fret'. Chicken grease is great on them tuner gears too, bear fat's too smelly, & it takes too long to fry a bear. Only joking - BEER !!!. It's amazing how good i sound after about 10 pints,it takes much more than that for the other listeners for me to sound good though,

Beer, for sure. We sometimes play at a brew-pub and get free beer plus 10% of the door. That green chili brew is awesome!

There's this all-night place in Seattle that we always used to go to after gigs. I can't think of the name right now, but it's on Aurora ave near Green Lake. They serve 12 egg omelets with all the right greasy ingedients. We'de go in at 3 am and order a couple, then split them up. All the other musicians working in North Seattle would be there too.

OH now that's a different way of answering the question. Yes after a gig or playing a dance or a jam I am frequently hungry, and if there was no food at the gig I stop at one of several favorite diners on the way home.
Two eggs over potatoes rye toast and coffee.

we ate the chicken after we played...of course
As for late nights, if we played until 1:00 or 2:00 we would also head to one of those greasy spoons for breakfast food and coffee.
I dont' drink, but I have never been offered free drinks either.

BBQ
I played wild party last night(8/11/07), the party was catered by a great BBQ resturant I have regularly played in the past, so BBQ is pretty common when ever I play a gig.......

A good pint always goes down well. I remember being on tour with my band once back in the early 90's and the only thing we would eat after a gig was chips & peas & gravy. Once toured with another band who brought their own supply of grub so that they could save money - all they ate for the two weeks we travelled with them was cold Heinz beans, Pot Noodles, and tinned rice pudding!

For the most part......Beer. Don't really eat or snack until the "Gig" is over, and hope to heck when we finish that the kitchen is still open, or the host ordered toooooo much.

Quote - "cold Heinz beans,Pot Noodles & tinned rice pudding". I'm assuming that the audience were issued with gas masks during the gig ?,

We played a neighborhood block party gig Saturday night that had fried chicken, BBQ (NC AND Virginia style) beans, cole slaw, about 4 different kinds of salad (my fav was some sort of sweet broccoli and raisin slad)and two big kegs of Yingling beer and tons of wine.
We don't drink during gigs but we sure hit the food inbetween the 3 sets we did at the urging of the event coordinators!
AND on top of all that we got paid handsomely and the weather was nice and cool instead of the scorchers we had been having!! Doesn't get any better that this!
Free food tastes SO good!

The best gig I've played (as far as food is concerned) was for a small airplane company. I think they make parts for planes or something like that. We played about 6 songs, I didn't even have to sing one, just play. The free meal was huge dinner salad, filet mignon with veggies and the best cheesecake ever made. Plus we each recieved $167.00 a piece. It was only an hour drive from home and was at one of the finest steak houses in Tulsa. I could do a gig like that every night.

We've had the whole spectrum: leather burgers to whole roast pig! I am fond of pig and deep fried turkey(or grilled) I have a really easy way to carve the birds and last time we did a gig with turkeys I spent almost as much time teaching that as picking! But, that 's another story. See why they call me "Timbofood"!?

I've had the good fortune of getting to perform at a number of bluegrass festivals this year and so far my favorite after gig food item has been a margarita...here's the perfected recipe:
1 1/2 oz. Nellie & Joe's Key Lime Juice
1 1/2 oz. Patron Silver Tequila
1 1/2 oz. Cointreau
...that and a bowl of tortilla chips and guacamole and I almost believe I'm back in Puerta Vallarta!
Anything free, but epecially things that are cold, wet, and bubbly!
It used to be that I said I never turned down free food. We played for a retirement community's annual get together a few years ago. The bees were swarming around the food while we were setting up, so an industrious elderly woman starting walking around the buffet table spraying Raid... on the dinner rolls, crock pots, salad. We were offered dinner during our break but for some reason none of us was very hungry.

I'm reading this on lunch break and drooling--mandopete, that margarita sounds fantastic; if I didn't have to go back to school I'd try one right now.

Yes, they are good - but watch out, they're strong too!
That's why they are for after the gig.

Played a "Derby Party" last year at the "Country Club" Grilled lamb chops, fried chicken, ham, tons of snacky stuff and ALL THE MINT JULEPS one could ask for! That and a significant check after tha fact. Great gig! 3 sets, no PA!

Pizza n beer
Collard greens, pinto beans garnished with chopped onions, and cornbread. #Sweet tea (cut 50% with unsweetened). #'Most any form of pig is a nice bonus, but since I get to choose, roasted boston butt is a favorite. #Brownies or homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

Our gigs are mostly the local Rescue Mission and rest-homes. We usually pass on the rest-home food. The Rescue Mission food can be great. My favorite is Chinese. After the gig we usually go to McDonald's for a hot fudge sundae and a senior coffee.
