View Full Version : playing out
hosted our open mic again last night, and man did i have fun. don't know about the rest of you, but with a friendly audience in a comfortable environment, whether the tunes come out perfectly, or the likelihood that they will come out pretty decent with flubs here and there- nothing is more fun than getting out and playin live.
last night we had the extra bonus of my town's local cable access channel come to film (even did us performing a full song). may not seem like a big deal, but everyone in town watches it, and it should make an already new but successful open mic into a regular happening in town. woo hoo!

Open mikes are great fun. There's an open mike in Jackson Hole, Wyoming every Monday night they call "The Hoot". Short for hootenany, I suppose. Anyway, even though we've played many times for pay all over the Western U.S., this format makes me nervous as all get out! People are actually listening and there is no noise at all. They use just one mic there and I think they could even get by without that! Sure seems different when there are just a few attentive fans out there than when there are hundreds of drunk and/or dancing or talking . . . well you know what I mean.
well, our open mic is kind of in the middle 20-60ish people at any given time (picks up after the 1st hour and then really hopping), and though they are mostly listening, they are certainly drinking, dancing and singing along, with some just talking away, but luckily they hang in the back for the most part.
i like that name-hoot. sure sounds like jackson hole to me.

haha ira, one guy here occasionally films our jams, and airs them on the local access tv channel. Pretty often I see folks that tell me they saw us on tv. We've probably lost as many listeners as we've gained! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
hopefully when someone sees us on the tube they will be simulating the drinking aspect of the bar and we should sound way better than we are.
