This past Saturday evening I had the wonderful opportunity to hear the NBBB at Randy Wood's Pickin' Parlor just outside of Savannah,Georgia. The venue is great with barbeque and a super performance hall. The band was awesome!! Mike Compton just blew the crowd away with his Monroe style on that powerful Gilcrest F5. The band left Compton on the stage alone where he played the Evening Prayer Blues. He is the top Monroe player. The band's performance was fun, great music and left you either wanting to practice more or sell everything and take up knitting!!They hung around for pictures, autographs and advice. #Go hear them if you get a chance. Also, Randy Wood's place is cool. My first time there. Good job NBBB!!!

Great review.

BTW, I did an on-air interview last Saturday afternoon with Mike Compton on our community radio/bluegrass show and I asked him when we were going to see a Mike Compton Instructional DVD. He said he's not sure people would be interested in what he has to teach. Apparently, those of us who would like to see this project happen need to lobby the leading instructional music companies (Acutab, Homespun), since I didn't get the impression Mike is out there marketing the concept hard...

I agree about the DVD. I've been to one Compton workshop and to a couple of his classes at the symposium and most everybody there thought they were GREAT. He's a great instructor in my opinion and should put something out.

Farmer Jones started a new thread: Oh taterbug ... (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=45646;) so this wouldn't get too sidetracked. If you want to express support for Compton DVD, visit above and leave a message. Maybe something will come of it.

As long as he keeps doing workshops. I learn something new everytime I get the chance to attend one. Jim Richter has done an excellent job bringing him back this way fairly often.

I wouldn't agree completely w/ the quote: "He is the top Monroe player," although he is definitely shares the top w/ some others, notably, Frank Wakefield. FYI, Frank has some good instructional DVDs out for anyone interested while they're waiting for Compton to make his.

Compton is one of my favorite pickers out there, it would be nice to see him put something out.
