I've played Bluegrass Stomp for several years now, but I played it with alternating up and down strokes. I'm just now learning to play it with all downstrokes as it should be played. I was listening to his old recordings of Bluegrass Special and Rocky Road Blues and wondering whether those tunes were also all downstrokes. Anybody know?

A hallmark of Monroe's playing is his heavy use of syncopated downstrokes. The tunes you mention are some of the best examples of Monroe's proto-rock & roll playing on the mandolin, as evidenced by his extensive use of downstrokes.
