First off, pardon my ignorence, but whats the deal with the KM-1000's. Is it indeed dis-continued? and if so why? Or has everybody just got it on back order?

Maybe they figured it was priced to low.
I bet they re-released it as model KM-1000m for $1,750.

I doubt they will release it as a new model, they have been very popular and as soon as they arrive in stores they are gone. I'm sure Saga is enjoying taking a piece out of the the well known Chinese mandolin maker. Have you called The Mandolin Store of Gianna Violins and tried placing an order for one?

I got mine from the Mandolin Store last week. It lives up to all the talk here on the Cafe. It is a wonderful sounding and playing mandolin. I am glad I waited for one.

I recommended it to several people. Why? Get one before they discontinue it or raise the price. It is way too good a deal for the money

They are out there... as a new model, demand is outpacing supply. The same was true when Eastman was new, now they're common. Since Saga is in the business of making money, I'm sure they'll ramp up production to meet demand. John Bernunzio had one on his website for weeks, but it's now showing as on hold.

I'll just stick with my Sumi-built(1980)KM-1000!! Better built by a better builder!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

They had one or 2 at Harry and Jeanie West's store today. I wasn't that impressed. To me it was very similar to Michael Kelly's and J. Bovier's. Good, but not knock your socks off great. IMHO

Those were probably not MIJ KM-1000s. A Sumi probably would have impressed you. I guess the ones you saw were the latest versions of the KM-1000?

the Km-1000 is one of the Korean made ones with the weird flowerpot and matte finish. even though its a 90's model its listed as new (probably because they have it priced a little rich at $2500 and it just hasn't sold). the new ones are supposed to be quite a bit better than those.

Saga is still working on dealer orders from 2006. As far as I know, this is getting progressively worse.

Think I'll put mine on eBay. Might be fun to watch! Nice mandolin.

Steve, How does your KM-1000 compare with your Appalachian? #For those that don't know the Appalachian in the house brand for Gianna Violins. #

The Appalachian prototypes were superior in power and response. Whole different thing. Will be interesting to see if we can maintain that in production.

For anyone that's interested the Elderly site as KM-1000's listed with no out of stock disclaimer right now. It appears they might have one in stock.

I have one in stock as well. Worth coming by to try it. I've held off pushing it out so that folks can give it a whirl. So far there's a mix of opinions. People liking warm and dark like it. People likeing bright & projecting like another brand. So far it hasn't sold, and quite a few people have tried it. None aware of the debate! If I have time I'll get a comparative images page up. We're distracted by some other events at the moment, so we've been pretty busy.
