Has anybody ever been to Arcata California. If you do visit Arcata go see Terry's Bluegrass Barber ,1040 G street, Arcata, CA, 95521 for a haircut and a chat about bluegrass. The guy that runs the place is called Terry Brill who plays bluegrass c.d.'s while he cuts hair. He also likes to talk about bluegrass too. While I was in his shop he invited me to come along to a bluegrass session in a coffee shop in Eureaka. The folks we met there were great and Terry let me pick a while on his Montelone f5. Wow!

Hey we got one of those http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There is an old barber shop in Bowie, Maryland (in the heart of historic Old Town Bowie) that has an open jam every friday evening. The barber who runs and owns the place also plays, sells, and repairs dobros in the same shop. He also restores and sells antique telephones out of the store. For a while the regulars who showed up there even had a band that played around the area.

If anyone is ever in Bowie on a friday, then see if Bob is hosting the jam that night.

I am so disappointed. I can can only buy musical instruments at our local music store. I wish I could get a haircut there as well. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Gives new meaning to 'Shave and a Haircut, 2 bits'

And if the owner had a nickel for every time he has heard that....

Of all the non musical places where a jam can happen, a barber shop is one of the cooler, I have to admit.

I once heard a story about a man who bought a pretty good mandolin from a barber shop. Often wonder what happened to both. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
