Does anyone know what type of wood Collings uses for their tops or what degree their radius is no their fingerboard?

Yes, someone does. The people at Collings can answer your questions. Email or call. They're quite responsive and helpfull I've found. Sometimes it's best to go straight to the source. Then maybe you could post what you find out here so we all know.

i heard they were kind of secretive about the wood issue and that is why they don't list it on their website. i'll try there anyway.

they are using adirondack spruce for the top.

the radius is a compound radius. 4.97339 at the nut, 8.90 at 12th fret.

Good info Cragger. Thanks for doing the homework for us. Wow, they calc their radius to 5 significant figures. Those computers are precise.

While touring the factory and drooling over the relatively inexspensive MT A model, I asked and they said "Some of the tops for the cheaper mandolins are Sitka and some are Red Spruce (Andironack). Visually, the untrained eye probably can't distinguish between the two and they chose not to specify which each mandolin has. In days of yore, the top end models (they only had two) had maple backs and sides with varying hardness ratings. It was too confusing so they don't state the difference anymore. All I do know is, they are making a great mandolin for $1755. and I really enjoy mine. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
