View Full Version : Old time c tune resource
Hi all, just stumbled across this:
http://slippery-hill.com/c/
more C tunes than you can shake a stick at, I particularly like playing Hell Broke Loose in Georgia on the mandolin, it fits really nicely, I learnt my version from the Bing Bros. but there is a Skillet Licker version on this site plus tons of other great stuff.

This is great, just the other night we were trying to think up C tunes in a jam. Let me just say we weren't in C for very long.
Thanks for the resource!

Justin: Your version of Hell Broke Loose (the Bing version) different from Skillet Lickers' version? I picked the Lickers one out a while back and didn't know how it compared to other versions out there. Not too many around here play it.
thanks.
Hi David, the Skillet Lickers' version of HBLIG is a bit different to the way that the Bing bros do it , from memory at least, I don't have my Bing bros recording with me.
There is also the tune Streak of Lean Streak of Fat recorded by A.A. Gray which is very similar but with a longer section in A minor which is a great version to learn as well, maybe more fiddlers play this one--at least I've played it with a few...

I heard Uncle Earl a few months ago, they play the dilly version, streak o lean. I recently learned the skillet lickers Hell Broke Loose in GA, and was comparing them both. Three out of the four parts are pretty close in both versions.

They have Farewell Trion listed, but no link. That's a great tune. It's on Bob Carlin's Bangin' and Sawin'.

I created the C Tune page. I e-mailed Carlin for permission to use the tune from that recording but he never answered me. Probably wouldn't care but.......
