Have they closed down Co-Mando? Whenever I download www.co-mando.com I come across this dull NetworkSolutions page that has nothing to do with the mandolin.
If this site has closed down, is there another site somewhere we can download diversified tunes in TEFView format?
Thanks.

I googled "Co-Mando" and "list" and found this (http://listserv.nodak.edu/archives/comando.html) (oops, thought you were talking about the Comando listserv, my bad)

Thank you very much, I'm glad to see I can use that site again!
Does anybody here do that list-serv? How is it these days?
It was pretty much the wild west, full of spam and flamewars the last time I peeked.
I think there is a way to check in on the conversations without joining in now by just using a web-based archive.

I get it individual messages insead of digest format. It seems like there is little crossover in posting between comando and the cafe, but there are a few who post on both, like Dale Ludewig. I like it a lot.

I find list-serv's in general frustrating in terms of technical functionality. They seem almost primitive compared to even the free message board formats out there now, much less compared to a well run board like this one. I am not sure why list serv's even exist anymore. Technology seems to have passed them by.

The flatpick guitar listserve (Flatpick-L) is the most knowledgeable base of info I've ever come across for all things involving acoustic guitars and bluegrass. It's high volume with virtually no spam or trolls, Several well-known players and instructors frequently post, some well-known luthiers and repair-persons are highly active, and in general it is one the nicest online communities I've encountered. Friendly, passionate about the main subject of the List, always ready to discuss and advise, and as I said before, highly knowledgeable. Sometimes folks even stop talking about BBQ once in a while in order to discuss issues related to guitars and guitar playing http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I hear you. I am not arguing about content or membership. I know there is some great information and great people on some of the list serv's out there. I just don't get why the owners don't convert them to message boards. The technical functionality is so much better. You could have the same information and the same great people, but it would be easier to use. It's not hard to do and it can be done for free.

I think part of the allure of co-mando is that it's delivered to the list members. Email comes in, you read it, do something (respond/archive/delete). I know it's more efficient for me. I tend to do a lot of surfing on the Cafe and the time I spend doing that can add up.
Activity on co-comando ebs and flows. There are occasional arguments that resolve themselves. I use gmail so SPAM is not an issue, although I do not think there is a SPAM problem. It's hard to explain the differences between the Cafe and co-mando. They're just different.

Yup. You can view the CoMando "archives" HERE. (http://listserv.nodak.edu/archives/comando.html) Don't be fooled by the term "archives." As soon as something is posted, it's archived and available for viewing. I simply set my membership to "no mail" and browse/contribute when it's convenient.
I don't think there's really much spam. Wish I could say the flamewars weren't so frequent.

You can pretty much do that with this site. Look at the preferences in "Your Control Panel." What is even better here is that you just get email about threads you want to track, not all of them.

There has always been confusion over CoMando and co-mando.com. That's why I merged co-mando.com content with Mandozine a few years ago. CoMando is a list-serv. It is not a Web site, although you can access the archives through the Web. When the CoMando Guest of the Week series started, I created co-mando.com (the domain CoMando was not available) to organize and archive the interviews and CoMando related threads. It was also meant to provide a Web site for CoMando related info such as an FAQ, etc. After a few years I merged the co-mando.com content with Mandozine, but kept the domain name as a redirect to Mandozine. Other than that, CoMando and Mandozine are not related. On May 31, the domain name "co-mando.com" expired. I did not renew it. The redirect no longer works. If you have any bookmarks or links pointing to co-mando.com, please change them to http://www.mandozine.com/home.php.

As a follow-up, CoMando is the listserv, co-mando.com (with a hyphen) is the now expired domain name I created. NEVER use a hyphen for CoMando. It has nothing to do with the listserv.
