Creekster,

Iam trying to find out info about. I don't know how far I'll be from the beach, and if I'll have time in the mornings...
I have located a couple of shops to rent.
I live in a small mountain town in WA. So all my outdoor adventures are in the hills. So I have yet to surf. Iam almost equally excited to surf as attending the symposium.

What you can help me out with would be great creekster. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hey Teleier : as you might suspect I'm from SC , Scotts Valley actually . If you really want to have fun at the symposium take your mountain bike. The trails at the university are some of the hottest downhills anywhere.Surf is just 4-6 miles from the school. Monterey Bay in the summer is sometimes refered to as Lake Monterey so you take your chances. Long/short board? I can help you get set up.

I was looking at map of the city and was thinking my bike would be appropriate. But with gas prices as they are now, Iam flying.

Longboard.

Hey, surfnut, next time I'm out there we'll have to go surfing! I'm in Wisconsin, but I'm originally from the Bay Area. I keep my 10'3" Bob Miller longboard at my sister's place in Gilroy, so that I can surf when I visit.

Yeah, I really miss mountain biking in those hills. Purisima Redwoods...the Forest of Obscene Marks... <sigh> great rides!

If you've not surfed yet, there's a great school that teaches, I'll have to get the name for ya. #They guarantee that you will stand up and ride a wave your first lesson or your money back #Also I think they help with all the stuff, board wetsuit, etc.

Timing wise I'm not sure... I'm guessing yes... it depends on the tides. #Looking at the tide charts, I think you might be cool...

Low tide:
aug 1 5:30 am
aug 2 6:17 am
aug 3 6:58 am
aug 4 7:37 am

so it is getting later then, the whole chart is here:

Tide Table, Santa Cruz- year (http://www.mobilegeographics.com:81/calendar/year/5613.html)

If you can catch an early morning tide, you'd probably be ok... I don't think we'll have classes at the crack of dawn LOL, but to be sure you may want to ask Ruffo http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
