The new Collings MT and MF models have been out now for about 6 months or so. #

What has been your experience with playing or owning?

Also, it seems that there might limited availability in stores...? #Has anyone experienced the same?

The MT is in short supply. I've ordered one from Greg Boyd and am in queue with others to receive delivery in the near future. #The MTs seem to be in short supply but MFs are available right now at a number of places including
Gryphon, Greg Boyd, Mass St. etc - check dealers on the Collings site. I think the cost difference (~2000) accounts for more interest in the MT which sells for $1755
(the MF sells for $3860). You can purchase a "full dress"
Collings A -and any number of other As - for the cost
of the MF. #

I really like the Collings sound (and design and playability). I was happy I could
purchase one and stay within my budget.

I picked up an MT about a month ago and couldn't be happier. They are hard to find though. I waited on a list for a couple of months at Elderly.

I played an MF recently, I wasn't expecting to be wowed by it for some reason but was! It had great tone and volume. The plain look is very tasteful! I have been planning to get a 2nd Gibson for a backup but if I figure out a way to get an MF instead, I may struggle to see which will end up being the favorite!

I just got mine from Dexter at Carmel Music, I am very impressed with the tone, volume and quality of workmanship. Crisp, crisp, crisp. The one I got has a wicked flamed back and ivoroid bound top which really sets it off. By the way Dexter is a great guy to deal with, and...the man HIMSELF, played mine, and liked it, oh.. thats the DAWG!!! I am only hoping some of his talent stayed with it,to resurface later through my hands http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Michael,

Did you get an F or an A style?

On the first day of Merlefest, I walked into the instrument expo and in the Collings booth were two spanking new MT's. Both sounded great, as best I could tell, but as usual it is always loud in that tent. One of the two said take me home and I couldn't deny the MAS. After a 2 weeks of playing it, we are still on our honeymoon. Loud and snappy. Barking like a bulldog. I like the v profile on the neck. It is comfortable for me, but very different from my Yellowstone which is more rounded. The simple detailing on the MT works for me, but the MF with the same detailing seems a little to plain jane for a $4000 mando. Flip side is that I played a MF at Gruhn's last month and it was IMHO on of the best sounding in the shop at that time.

For me, the MF is a winner. The right balance of great sound, Collings workmanship, steath looks, and a fair price

Sorry, I meant to say the MT is a winner.

Hey Walter,

I got the A model, MT. Played it alot last night with some friends and they too were very impressed. My one buddy who is a conisure of mandolins, chopped a few cords picked out a little melody and said "WOW" http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
