View Full Version : Not a peep about the mandolin in the article The B
I read the piece off rhe FMaj7 (that's Cafe, folks) home page and it's well-written, warm and engaging. Actually made me want to sign up one Friday night and pick some Monroe tunes at the barn.
The fact that the Loar wasn't mentioned is ok in my book, actually was preferable. I mean, Monroe's legacy is bluegrass, be it made on a Loar or anything else.

That 'anything else' include an F-7, by any chance????
And there are tunes on the 'Bluegrass Instrumentals' album that are recorded with an F-4.

Evan,
Which ones? I had an argument about that about 15 years ago with someone that said "no" but I thought that might be so...
How'd you know that?

'Big Mon' & 'Monroe's Hornpipe' were recorded using an F-4. I beleive either the notes (by Rinzler) on the original Decca album or Rosenberg's "Discography" specify this fact.

I have an album of Bill`s that says some of the songs were recorded on an F-12, I assume this was while his Loar was being put back together but also a lot of people mistake an F-7 for an
F-12...I wish I could remember where I stored that album.....Willie
